Can an MP3 File Contain a Virus?

MP3s are data, not programs. They cannot execute code. The real threats are elsewhere.

Where the danger actually is

• Fake .mp3.exe files: Windows hides extensions; "song.mp3.exe" looks like an MP3
• Fake download buttons: ads disguised as download links
• Bundled installers: "converters" that install junk

Judge the site, not the extension

A clean MP3 from a clean site is safe. A "clean" MP3 from a shady site might not be an MP3 at all.
